An Aztec person would see their own religious beliefs and practices as an integral part of their identity and culture. A European visitor, who would likely never have been exposed to such a system, would likely think of the beliefs as outlandish and without merit, even though the very same thing could be said about his or her own views through the eyes of the Aztec person.
