+2y and -2y cancel out.

5x = 10

divide 5x by 5 and 10 by 5

x = 2

then plug x into on equation to find y.

3(2) + 2y = 10

6 + 2y = 10

subtract 6 from both sides

2y = 4

divide both sides by 2

y = 2

answer: x = 2     y = 2
