There are three different types of epidemic outbreaks that can be described as common source outbreaks, propagated or progressive epidemics, and mixed epidemics.

A disease outbreak can be triggered by a variety of factors, such as the presence or absence of carriers, population densities, patterns, immune statuses, and the likelihood that individuals will re-infect one another.

Hope this helps :)
