x + y = 3
3x - 2y = 4

x + y = 3
x = -y + 3

3(-y + 3)  - 2y = 4
-3y + 9 - 2y = 4
-5y = -5
y = 1

x + 1 = 3
x = 2

x = 2, y = 1

One way to figure this out or to solve this is:

x=2
y=1

x+y=3
2+1=3

3x-2y=4
3 multiplied by 2= 6
2 multiplied by 1=2
6-2=4
3 times 2 minus 2 times 1 equals 4
